Finding an old friend - I recently bought this CD having purchased the original album 47 years ago. The treatment on Bernie s Tune and I Could Write A Book is wonderful. When these two horn masters decided to join talents they were told that two trombones and rhythm would never work. It did and quite well as this album proves.
Good stuff from the masters...again - This is another great album by J.J. Johnson and Kai Winding. My only regret is that Savoy didnt spend more time remastering the CD. It sounds as if this CD was recorded in a barn, with really distracting reverb. Furthermore, there is significant background noise on a couple tracks. Still, this can t distract from the fact that these are two masters who play together really well. This being an earlier recording of the two together, the charts included are alot more be-bopish than some of their later recordings. Good stuff...
